Update on pc
Well, I'm back after two formats and installations. Apparently on my quest of extinguishing viruses, trojans and spyware, I accidentally deleted a library necessary for my DVD decoder. So I had to format and then wait for one day to find my administrator and get a student's license for my Windows XP copy, since the computer store from which I bought my pc never gave me a code. They quite possibly used a cracked password to activate my copy, but they never gave it to me. Then came the boring part of re-installing programs, downloading again from the university those I didn't back up and transfering them home. For this procedure I had the invaluable help of a flash memory stick. If you don't have one, you don't know what you're missing. They can be extremely helpful, especially for those with problematic internet connections. Last part of restoring my pc: updates. I had to download updates for antivirus, firewall etc. And that's when my modem failed me. From time to time it freezes and loses communication with the computer, while I'm offline. Basically there's nothing I can do, but wait patiently. That was the case again with the only exception it happened in the middle of a download. So I had to wait two more days for my modem to come back from its vacation. But now everything's normal again, touch wood. Am I going to install SP2? No way Jose, I'm not going through this again. I know not everyone is having problems with SP2, but I just known I'm not going to be that lucky. Why should I tempt fate?
If you have not been lucky with your pc in the past you should probably stay clear of SP2. ;) I have not had problems with XP, SP1 or SP2.
Why is it that Windows installations are always different? You use the same pc, same Windows CD, the same settings, but always have minor changes. *???* I installed XP twice. The first time it was not so grand. The second time it was perfect. (Having a *good* Windows still feels unreal to me.)
Is your university Windows Greek or English? A friend of mine got a student's license, installed XP Professionals and was cranky because it was the English version. :P
Don't get me started on computer stores...

I now have SP2 on CD, but I'd rather install a Linux distribution than the "update from hell".
I don't know what's wrong with Windows. My pc's features are considered very good, but I'd expect it to be a lot faster than my old one at my parents, which has less RAM, disk space and an older processor. Yet they both work just as fast, or slow.
My university offers WINXP Home and Professional in English, Greek and other languages. I think they're running out of CDs, because students that borrow them don't make copies but keep the originals.
