A place of rants

A friend told me yesterday that my blog should be the place where I can feel free to rant and she was right. And I'll be damned if they, the big bad people out there, don't give me the opportunity every day.

I just got home from university where I met a friend to get some notes. It wasn't raining today so I decided to walk home, a nice change from sitting down all day. As I was getting ready to cross the street a cab driver, coming from the opposite side of the road started flashing his lights, never mind he already had two customers, who were probably going to the hospital. Of course this has never stopped them before. But the fact that I didn't wave or even acknowledge him should give him a clue; I wasn't interested. No such luck. He slowed down, turned his head towards me and said something, which I didn't hear as I was still trying to cross the road. Why can't I get such an offer when I'm packed and waiting for a cab to take me to the harbour? Stupid rhetorical question, you don't need to answer.

Not two minutes passed and a car almost hit me. The driver drove purposefully of the road straight at me to scare me. He missed me by less than half a meter! I turned my head to get a good look at the car and maybe the license number, when I saw the two girls sitting at the back seats turning back, pointing at me and laughing. Yes, I was such a big joke. If their friend wasn't such a "good" driver, I could be at the hospital right now and in a court room in a few weeks. Now wouldn't that be sooo funny? I stood there watching them, fuming, wanting desperately to pick a fight. I wanted to stamp my foot and scream it's not fair. Every time I have troubles with buses, I think how great it would be if I had a car. Well he had a car and he so not deserved it.

Perhaps I shouldn't complain so much. After all I didn't get any wolf whistles/horns today.

You can bet that if you are down and not capable of fighting back people will come out to annoy you. It's unfathomable to me what some people consider to be funny. The car could have hit you and you might have been seriously injured. I don’t feel much compassion towards drivers who drive recklessly, cause crashes and have to pay for their behaviour. Most of the time they are drunk anyway. Such irresponsible behaviour is unacceptable.
Girly girls on the backseat are just annoying. I can so understand your anger.

I hate that cars often slow down when the drivers see that I am waiting to cross the street after they have passed. They get a kick out of making people wait. Now that the snowy season has just started I can look forward to getting hit with loads of mud by speeding cars...

I saw in the news last week that you had a snow storm. Well that's something that doesn't happen often, so I don't have to worry about frozen mud. But I can't understand how they can drive that fast when the streets are in such poor condition. When it snowed last year they kept speeding as if nothing was wrong.

Well as I can see, nothing has changed in our so beloved Heraklion. Each and every day that passes I realise how lucky I am, not spending this autumn there. Most roadworks might have finished, the coastline might have changed, the city centre might be a bit more "beautiful" now, but some people just can't change. The least you can do... avoid some places (call me Heraklio). Simple as that.

P.S.: Sorry to your -otherwise lovely- Cretan readers.
