Cruising
I won! I won a cruise! The destination will be revealed in the next lines.
I'm traveling by ferry tomorrow night so I've been worrying all week about the weather conditions, the winds more specifically. On Tuesday night, Mega TV gave a prediction for Athens up to Saturday that gave winds up to 7 beauforts for Saronikos sea. And they were right, according to EMY.
Since I can still travel with a ferry at 8B, why do I care about Saronikos? Well, over the last 4 years I've come up with my own method of weather prediction (a desperate student will do that). To predict the sea winds in the Cretan sea I add 2B to whatever Saronikos has. You'd surprised how accurate this is. Actually I've never been wrong. On Thursday I presented my hypothesis to a friend I'm traveling with and she immediately checked Poseidon, where she didn't find anything worrying. What followed was an exchange of arguments, with my friend supporting Poseidon and me Emy. Eventually, we made a list of what we could do to pass the time, just in case.
I hate to say this, but I was right. According to the warning issued from Emy the weather will start getting better on Sunday noon, which leave us with 15 extra hours to amuse ourselves. We're packing books (Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen and No name, by Wilkie Collins for me), cards (canasta, hopefully I'll win this time), snacks, walkman/cd-player and patience. At least we'll have our own beds.
And time to reveal the destination of my cruise: the harbour of Heraklion. Duration: 15 hours at least, hopefully less than a day.

All I can say is have a safe and sound journey! 15 hours on a boat, sigh, I pity you! But then you have great literature in your bags. ;)
Cashima
LOL! So I'm not the "gkantemhs", you are the one!!! ;-)
I really had forgotten the good things about being a student in Heraklion. You win free cruises, where you either have to pay for the half-portion food in the boat or order pizza from a delivery and try to explain where you want it delivered to!!
Well, at least you made it! This Wednesday I have to catch the train 30 minutes after my coach arrives from Manchester to London (a 4h 30m journey). The tube ride takes about 10-15 minutes. If there's any delay at all, I miss my train to Paris. A new ticket would cost more than 70 euros... (Wonder why I ended up like this? These were the cheapest tickets I could find...)
Vive le Minoikes!!!
Cashima my post was slighlty misunderstood. 15 hours were the amount of time I expected we would have to wait in the harbour before we would be able to sail. The trip lasts 7-8 hours. Fortunately we only had to wait 3 hours, we sailed at midnight. :)
Anthony, this proves nothing. As I've said before I've only had to spent extra hours in the ferry once when travelling alone. When travelling with the friend it happens every single time except for summer trips. When I'm travelling with you "tuppers" are necessary. When I'm travelling with both of you all hell breaks loose. Now who's the "gkantemis"?
PS: Have fun a Paris :)
